Amy (A): Welcome to Prosecco N Prose, the Epilogue: Season 3 Superlatives.

Wendy (W): This week’s prosecco should definitely pass your prosecco swillability test because it's our always favorite, our always go-to ….

A: Not exactly. As much as I would love to be drinking Kirkland’s Signature Asolo Prosecco Superiore, we had one more extra bottle of bubbly that did not make it into a prose pairing. I just thought we could try that today.

W: Okay … Are you sure? Yes….This season didn’t produce a very memorable prosecco haul.

A: Oh, it was memorable alright, just for all the wrong reasons. Yeah. But that’s okay because first, someone’s got to try all these proseccos and second, the prose more than made up for it in the memorable department.

W: True. The prose was amazing. Okay! So, what have you got? Should I be concerned?

A: Probably, I am. Oh no. But figured, why not?  You're so fun to surprise. And, I had it, so

W: Great. Let me see it. Now I know why it’s all covered and set up and like this big secret here.

A: It’s a fun surprise. This one could be some real primo prosecco. You just never know.

W: No, you don’t, but the way you are trying not to laugh makes me think this will be far from primo. The bottle, please.

A: At your service, my prosecco princess.

W: Well, the label is simple, kind of this elegant gold and green.

A: See? You’re kind of paranoid?

W: Hmmm …. Martellozzo …. I think so…I looked at it and its as close as I’m going to get to. It's a DOC …. Martellozzo It’s also a frizzante, so not going to be overly bubbly, and it’s a screw top. Amy! I don’t remember this one. Where did you get this?

A: I picked it up at Tiger Mart the day I bought the Cupcake prosecco for our science experiment.

W: Tiger Mart? What’s that?

A: What is it? Really? You don’t listen. It’s the gas station across the street. Remember? Tiger Mart! You can buy wine, lottery tickets, crunchy crispy chicken, and of course screw-top gas station prosecco.

W: Lovely.

A: Hey! Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it. Right.

W: Hmmm …. Okay! Let’s see what other info I can get …. From the back, production area: Prosecco DOC.

A: See, it’s met some qualifications already.

W: And we also learned this season that that doesn’t necessarily relate to quality, but you’re right, I need to be open minded.

A: Exactly. What else have you got?

W: It gave us some tasting Notes: Light soft wine. Slightly aromatic with delicate taste of apples and fruit.

A: Oooh apples are back!

W: And maybe you’ll even taste them. Culinary suggestions: [inaudible] Excellent as an aperitif or with light seafood or fresh fruit dishes. Now I know why you asked me to bring fruit. And finally, Serving Temperature: 8° - 10°C or 46° - 50°F. This wine maker wants to ensure you do everything to get the best prosecco sipping experience.

A: You know the producer wants us to be very prepared.

W: It’s only a 10.5%, boo so a tad lower than most proseccos. Have you rated it?

A: I have, but I suddenly can’t remember. See what you get.

W: Okay …. Amy! Hold on a second. Amy! This is a 3.5! And about $18 a bottle. Kind of pricey for that rating. Not feeling this will be very primo.

A: But it could end up being very swillable.

W: I suppose it could be. Do you remember what you paid? Did you pay $18?

A: No way! You know I’m a bargain girl. I got it for $6.99 in the clearance bottle bin. What? Tiger Mart, they have everything. Now, since it’s a screw-top and you do have the bottle, do you think you could handle opening it, for once, and pouring us a glass so we can try it out?

W: I might be able to handle that ….

Wendy having trouble opening the bottle. Amy opened it up with no effort.

Tasting by the girls!

A: Well, while we sip on this gas station libation, shall we give out some our prosecco superlatives?

W: So high school of us, but let’s do it. Let’s Alright. We picked just four categories: the bubbliest bubbly, least favorite, most favorite, and prettiest label. So Amy, which prosecco would you give the bubbliest bubbly award to?

A: Oh that’s super easy for me.  Syltbar from the episode that kicked off the season. That one exploded all over the studio! There’s probably still a bit of perlage in the carpet. Sorry Josh! And what about you? Who did you give the award to?

W: I agree. Syltbar. Uh huh! But I was looking back over the season, and the Chloe Rosé was the one that popped on its own, so maybe it should’ve won.

A: Ah! Totally different situation with that one. But, the Syltbar popped and bubbled over with me trying to not let it, so I think Syltbar’s the clear winner here.

W: Okay, okay. Alright, least favorite.

A: Sheesh …. There were a few of those. Speaking of the Chloe Rosé from “Girls, At Play, that was not a favorite, but the worst one was Casa Sant’Orsola from The Four Winds episode. It was so gross. It was cheap, $5, but that thistle water will never pass my lips again. Geh!  I keep thinking of your skunk smell every time I see that bottle on the shelves. Not good. Did not pass the swillability test. At. All. Gross!

W: That one was pretty awful, but my least favorite was the Luna d’Or from the “Haunting Olivia” episode. It was also a frizzante, do you remember? Yeah, yeah! And it reminded us of juicy fruit gum, remember?

A: I do. I don’t mind juicy gum.

W: I don’t either, but not for my prosecco. Alright …. Most favorite?

A: That would be Belissima, the sparkling wine, maybe it wasn't prosecco...but it was from the “Popular Girls” episode. It had the most alcohol, whoop whoop was the most expensive, and I gave it my highest rating, a 4.1. And the bottle was so girly and it was fun …. I’d drink that any time and any place...even in the Tiger Mart bathroom if they sold it. But they don’t I’ve checked. It’s not a gas station libation.

W: I really liked that one as well and I did rate it the highest, but I think my favorite was Syltbar from “The Veldt” episode. Initially, I thought all the yeastiness made it not prosecco-ey enough for me, but now I just think of bread and deliciousness. I like to drink my bread. So yeah, Syltbar was my favorite.

A: That was a good one. And a very different one. Last category, prettiest label. Which bottle earned that for you?

W: Hmmm … There were two that really caught my eye, Syltbar and Chloe Rosé. Those were both so pretty to me.

A: They were, but for me, I just love the classic look. Chloe Rosé with its pretty black bow on the white label with gold trim was just so pretty. However,….t wasn’t pretty in my mouth, kind of gross actually, but the outside was very nice to look at. You know I am thinking…I’m trying to swallow. It’s kind of like a handsome man that appears in your dreams, but then when he leans in to kiss you, it’s like a fish in the mouth.

W: Okay …. Quite the description. Okay…sorry Josh. I wasn’t talking about Josh. I know. For me, I give the edge to Syltbar. I loved the raised gold letters and the pretty gold fan. It was simple, but elegant. Ornato was quite a pretty bottle as well.

A: It was orangey. Yeah, it was good. We also upped our prosecco knowledge this season …. Learned about mousse; two drier proseccos, Extra Brut and then Brut Nature or Brut Zero; and a no bubbles bubbly, Tranquillo or Calmo.

W: That’s right. And don’t forget those two top tier proseccos, Cartizze and Rive. I mean we’ve got some sleuthing to do on our family trips this winter.

A: We sure do. Love how you roll that “R”…We also had some interesting tasting notes this season …. I think we compared prosecco to nail polish remover, perfume, there was a body lotion, some weeds, my favorite...my favorite sweet tarts, juicy bubble gum, and even a skunk.

W: Yeah, thistle water skunk…we had some interesting ones. Our prose was interesting as well, but in a much better way. Our prose categories are: Best Short, Best Novel, Best Prose Overall, these are just our opinions guys…and Most Surprising Read, and Prettiest Book Cover. I’m pretty sure I can guess, but what was your best short?

A: I bet you can because we both absolutely loved this one. “The Hands of Dirty Children by Alejandro H. Puyana. H is for Hemingway. Of course. He’s a storywriter after my own heart. Just loved that piece so, so, so much.

W: All of the shorts were so good this season, we never pick bad li here but I agree, Puyana’s was the best. Novel?

A: So you are asking me about a novel? Yes. This is kind of hard for me …. I loved both Marcia Preston’s The Spiderling and Kristin Hannah’s The Four Winds …. But I think I’m going to have to stick with my favorite author, Marcia Preston. What about you?

W: Gosh, we had so many great reads this season. I mean they all were very good.

A: They definitely were.

W: Mine is a toss-up between Girl A and The Push. I just love thrillers yes you do…and it’s so hard to pick one, but if I have to …

A: …. You do, I did.

W: Okay …. I think I’m going with Girl A. I loved how the twists were revealed. Overall?

A: “The Hands of Dirty Children” is my ultimate favorite writing for the season because for me, for me… it elicited the most emotion and I just couldn’t get enough. I’m still reading it. What can I say, I love Puyana’s writing? What took top honors for you?

W: Same. That story was just so …. Everything!

A: I know! I don’t have enough words for it, so everybody, if you haven’t read it yet, what are you waiting for??? Go read it now!!!! What was your most surprising read, you know something you just weren’t expecting? I love this category.

W: Again, there were a few …. Girl A, The Push, Detransition, Baby …. Not being a mother, there was a lot in The Push that I had just no idea. Motherhood …. Not too sure I missed out on anything.

A: Yeah, there was a lot in that one. I was most surprised by Torrey Peters’ Detransition, Baby. I have always wanted to know more about trans-people, and her story was so informative...so intelligently written. Plus, she was so easy to connect with. I didn’t feel weird asking her questions. She was very accepting and I wasn’t afraid to say something that might offend her.

W: Ooooh …. That was a very good and very surprising one as well. Okay, last category, the prettiest cover.

A: All the covers were so good this season and so perfect for their stories, but I loved the cover of The Push by Ashley Audrain. Why? The colors, black, minty blue, violet, just drew me into the story. And I could feel something bad was going to happen …. It evoked a mood, if that makes sense.

W: It does and I think you could say that about all the covers this season …. They were a mood.

A: Oh they were. I mean Girl A, it was like peeking in through the keyhole of their room.

W: I did not even think of that!

A: And the letter A …. That’s like the shape of the house.

W: Woah …. I do see that. Love a good book cover.

A: Don’t we all. So your prettiest?

W: The Spiderling by Marcia Preston. Just so much emotion in the little girl and even though you only see the back of the mother, you can feel it. And I think having had to do a few goodbyes and welcome homes as a military spouse, there was just a real connection to that moment depicted on the cover.

A: Yeah. It definitely gets you.

W: It does. Well, that wraps up our superlatives of season 3.

A: We had so much fun discussing our theme of power and the path it took us on through each piece.

W: It was it was really fun and hopefully you guys enjoyed it as well. We’d love to hear your thoughts on any of it. You can email us on our website or message us on any of our social media.

A: We’d love for you to rate and review us on apple podcasts, it takes just a few seconds and means so much to us.

W: And if you enjoyed the season, please tell a friend you might think would enjoy listening as well.

A: Yes! Tell all your friends and family, if you haven’t already. Right. Now Wendy, you tell me your rate and review of this Martellozzo Martellozzo…prosecco frizzante. It’s really good.

W: Is it swillable? Smooth, sour. 3.5 or 3.4 Prefer Kirkland's. Served with fruit and fluff.

A: It’s gas station prosecco. 3.6. 6.99 we got a deal. Sweet…sour…along the side of the tongue.

W: Well, I think that’s a wrap on Season 3.

A: I think so. Thank you everyone for coming along on this power trip with us. Our next season is all about love and will be dropping that in February, so be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss an episode.
